Frease scores 12 points in collegiate debut as X rolls past IPFW

  • November 14, 2008 | AP Press

CINCINNATI, OH — Center Kenny Frease scored 12 points in his collegiate debut Friday night, and Xavier turned its flock of freshmen loose in a 71-43 victory over Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.

A few minutes into the game, Xavier had three freshmen on the floor, including the 7-foot Frease. It was a preview of what’s ahead for the Musketeers (1-0), who have five true freshmen on the roster and eight players who had never before appeared in a Xavier game.

They had a good first showing, helping Xavier dominate from the outset.  C.J. Anderson, one of five regulars from the Musketeers’ 30-win team last season, scored a team-high 15 points.

IPFW (0-1) fell behind 37-14 in the first half, when Frease had seven points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks. It was the fewest points Xavier allowed in an opening half since Marietta also was limited to 14 in a 97-49 victory on Nov. 29, 1993.

  1. Kenny Frease could very well be a beast in the A10 for the next four years. Great pickup for Xavier and hopefully UMass will have an answer for him.

Kenny Frease will dominate the A10 this year. If X has a good run he might be a one and done. NBA scouts love his size and athleticism. Sean Miller, can’t hold back on Frease he’s a starter from day 1.
